TeamTalk hires CTO

Wellington-based telco TeamTalk has established a new group CTO role, and brought onboard Jamie Baddeley from FX Networks to take it on.
The CTO role will oversee technology projects and strategy across TeamTalk’s wireless business and its fibre business (CityLink). Previously this was conducted by senior IT managers across the group.
Baddeley is currently the general manager of projects at FX, where he has worked for nine years. He says the decision to move on was to pursue new challenges with wireless technology, a sector he has had experience in while working at BCL (now Kordia) in the 1990s.
“Nine years is a long time. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved at FX, but after working with fibre and broadband for a decade I’m excited to be getting back into wireless,” says Baddeley.
Baddeley’s team will initially consist of himself and a project manager, but he says as new projects are developed new staff will likely be hired.
TeamTalk CEO David Ware says Baddeley will work on further developing and commercialising the technology in the company’s Wellington CBD wi-fi service, and prepare TeamTalk for negotiations with the government over the upcoming 700 MHz spectrum sale.
“Spectrum is a strong element for us and we have a strong opinion on where it is going and how it’s going to be used,” says Ware.
He says Baddeley’s experience at a similar homegrown telco is part of the reason TeamTalk hired Baddeley for this role.
Baddeley starts at TeamTalk on November 6.
