Website: www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nzAuckland Council continues its transformation of core business processes and ICT environments of the now defunct separate local councils — Auckland City, Manukau, Rodney, North Shore, Waitakere, Franklin and Papakura and the Auckland Regional Council. “As part of the wider council activities, IS will assist the organisation in its transformation programme to consolidate and improve its business processes and supporting technologies,” says head of information services Mike Foley. Over the coming year rationalisation of several key systems, for example Auckland Council’s rating solutions and customer service solutions, will be facilitated by IS. IS will also focus on transforming the core infrastructure through the rationalisation of datacentres, telephony infrastructure and the consolidation of a standard desktop operating environment. Consolidation accounts for significant IS focus over 2012, with rates systems, datacentres, standard desktop SOE, and asset management systems all falling under consolidation programme plans. Unified communications technology will receive strategic investment this year, with CRM, business intelligence, knowledge management, e-business, disaster recovery and business continuity also set for investment. Focus on technology areas such as virtualisation, ERP, FMIS, wireless and VoIP will continue from last year. In August last year, the council won “best SAP Enterprise Resource Planning” award at the SAP Award of Excellence event for the successful integration of the former councils that now make up the unified super council.
