His role at Vector is to ensure the strategic investment in technology integrates and supports the business strategy. “Vector is a critical multi-infrastructure business in New Zealand that has a high dependency on technology solutions. The alignment and integration of technology with business process will enhance our business and improve efficiency,” he says. Indeed, the infrastructure group owns and manages a portfolio of energy and fibre optic infrastructure networks across New Zealand, whose energy and fibre optic assets perform a key role in delivering energy and communication services to more than one million homes and businesses across the country. ICT is a key enabler of the company’s objectives. Several important ICT projects are planned for 2012, including a CRM review, SCADA network enhancements, a fieldwork management review, reviews of asset management applications and the office productivity suite, and key upgrades to infrastructure. “We are continuing to virtualise our infrastructure so that it can be leveraged for all of our businesses at a more cost effective level,” says Ambrose. “The value and insights coming from the growth of data across the company will provide strategic benefits for Vector. It is complex, as parts of our business are regulated. There are many different challenges to be met his year, but we’re taking the strategic investment perspective, and looking for long term ROI from our technology assets.”
