Ericsson appoints new boss for NZ, Australia and Fiji

Group CTO Hakan Eriksson to head up business down under.

Ericsson has appointed Hakan Eriksson in a new role as head of Ericsson in New Zealand, Australia and Fiji.

Eriksson is promoted from his current position as Group CTO and head of Ericsson in Silicon Valley.

“I have spent the last 25 years in Ericsson within the research and development organisation and the last nine of those as CTO. When I took the job as CTO (in 2003), the debate was whether 3G would ever appeal to the mass market,” Eriksson said in a statement.

“Today, mobile broadband has become a necessity to billions of people. Although the CTO role has always meant staying very close to our customers, I now look forward to more directly support our customers in monetising their networks in a world where technology and networks become increasingly more complex.”

Eriksson will begin the role on February 1. He replaces Sam Saba whose new role in the company has yet to be announced.

Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg credited Saba with extending the company’s market position, and cited the supply of fibre to Chorus in the Ultra Fast Broadband network as one of his achievements.
