Former Ministry of Fisheries CIO Channa Jayasinha is starting a new role this week at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's verifications and systems branch . He will be the director within the MAF branch responsible for the Border Change Programme (BCP) and the Joint Border Management System (JBMS), which is run jointly with the New Zealand Customs.
Jayasinha will be responsible for leading, planning, directing, coordinating, resourcing and managing the delivery of MAF’s input into the two programmes that are led by Customs.
He will be reporting to Roger Smith, MAF deputy director general verifications and systems.
Jayasinha moves into this role following the merger of Fisheries with MAF. He became Fisheries CIO in 2009. His previous roles included chief technology officer at the Ministry of Economic Development and CIO of the Department of Conservation.
