NZForex signs up for NZ Post’s online identification service RealMe

New customers using RealMe do not have to present identification documents when sending money overseas.

International payments specialist NZForex has signed an agreement with NZ Post’s online identification service RealMe.

This means new customers of NZForex who are using the identity verification system no longer have to present identification documents when sending money overseas.

OzForex Group CEO Neil Helm says the new secure service is important to the business because it provides New Zealand customers with greater convenience by simplifying the sign up process. Customers with a RealMe identity no longer have to fax or scan identity verification documents to sign up for the service.

“By streamlining the on boarding process further it improves our efficiency, reduces administrative costs and minimises risk from the transaction process," says Helm in a statement. NZForex is a wholly owned subsidiary of the ASX listed OzForex Group and is the platform for international money transfer services that include Travelex, MoneyGram, ING Direct and Macquarie Bank.

Richard Foy, head of Digital Transformation at the Department of Internal Affairs, cites NZForex for taking this innovative step for its customers. “We know having a verified identity makes life much easier for consumers.”

RealMe was launched last year by the NZ government and NZ Post, to provide a secure way for people to access services and prove their identity online within New Zealand. RealMe gives customers the choice to do important transactions completely online where they would usually have to front up in person with identification to complete the transaction.

Mandy Smith, NZ Post head of agency services, says they are particularly pleased a company acknowledged for innovation has recognised the benefits of RealMe.

“Big banks and financial service companies have been the early adopters of RealMe,” says Smith. “We’re also now receiving enquiries from a wide range of other sectors keen to benefit from the risk reduction and business process improvements RealMe provides, while giving a greater digital customer experience to their customers.”

Smith, meanwhile, says NZForex is also the first to sign-up for the new Datacom hosted integration to the RealMe service. This solution meant that NZForex could get to market quickly with minimal effort and investment on their side.
