Key projects for the year include technologies to support the introduction of national standards and investment in knowledge management.

The goal of the Ministry of Education is to raise achievement, so all young people can make a clear contribution to our economic future. The education system must equip learners with the skills and knowledge they need to be a productive part of the workforce.

In 2010-2011 the Ministry will focus on increasing its effectiveness and ensuring that the system delivers these outcomes for students. The Ministry will be reshaping its role, size and focus, and Minister for Education Anne Tolley has expressed a desire for a greater focus on ICT services.

CIO Leanne Gibson says the responsibility of the Ministry of Education IT Group will be to assist the organisation to improve its effectiveness through smart use of technology, particularly to overcome the challenges of managing a large and complex organisation.

The IT Group will focus on building resilience (particularly in disaster recovery), increasing flexibility and agility, along with improving services to make funding go further.
