The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is a Crown entity established on 1 August 2008, bringing together the functions of Land Transport New Zealand and Transit New Zealand. NZTA seeks to progress the broad outcomes promoted by the New Zealand Transport Strategy.
The NZTA Statement of Intent says, “Our business is large and complex and we need to integrate closely on the one hand with government’s strategic transport policy objectives, and on the other manage relationships with key stakeholders and the public”.
Towards developing a ‘capable organisation’, the newly formed NZTA says it will “complete the integration of systems and processes to support a new, single organisation [and] work with managers and staff to develop and implement NZTA policies, systems and processes that contribute to and support integration”.
Allan Frost is group manager organisational support who, prior to this role, had been chief financial officer and subsequently chief information officer for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
NZTA is a significant user of information technology with nearly 8000 screens and an IT team of 60. In 2008, significant ICT projects for Land Transport (as it was then) included changes to support new Transport Operator licensing legislation; a system which looks at all transport operators and operations and targets information to allocate resources to risk. Land Transport also made a significant investment in VoIP to coincide with its new premises.
In the online space, last year Land Transport sought to make more transaction services available online for the public and its partners.
