Darrin Hackett is new CIO at Waikato DHB

Replaces Alan Grainer, now CEO of an NGO.

The Waikato District Health Board has a new CIO, Darrin Hackett, replacing Alan Grainer who is now CEO of the non government organisation Wild Bamboo.



Hackett’s previoius roles included regional IT lead for HealthShare and general manager, Health Intelligence.

The Waikato District Health Board ranks number 30 in MIS100, the list of the country’s largest IT user organisations. The IS department manages over 4600 screens, and is responsible for the ICT needs of all clinical and corporate divisions of the DHB, along with some support services to the University of Auckland Waikato Clinical School and Midland Healthshare.

Enabling mobility and linking practitioners across the health care continuum are also key goals of the IT organisation, says Grainer in the MIS100 2011 report. Grainer says other projects of the DHB are replacement of the laboratory system, an enterprise platform refresh, enhancements to infrastructure security, an HRIS upgrade, regional IS projects for Pharmacy, clinical data repository and a new network. Finally there is a new oral health information system.

Grainer joins the Hamilton-based Wild Bamboo after seven years at the DHB. Wild Bamboo is part of the Wise Group, a group of charitable non-government organisations operating in the mental health sector, according to its website.
