Air New Zealand taps Gen-i for additional datacentres

By CIO New Zealand | Friday, August 20 2010

Expands contract to cover telecommunications and IT infrastructure.

Air New Zealand has chosen Gen-u to deliver its datacentre and network infrastructure.

The agreement covers voice and data network services worldwide, and 24x7x365 day support and project services across all of Air New Zealand's global and domestic locations, according to a press statement issued by Gen-i.

The contract extends Gen-i’s relationship with Air New Zealand from supporting the airline’s telecommunications needs to housing its IT infrastructure in a Gen-i datacentre facility.

The datacentre will be located in a Tier 3 facility in Airedale Street in Auckland. It is part of Gen-i's existing datacentre complex at the site, which interconnects with Telecom’s main Mayoral Drive exchange.

Air New Zealand chose the facility at Airedale Street to replace its secondary data centre on Nelson Street. Gen-i says the new facility features highly seismic-rated buildings, a highly resilient infrastructure design, environmental monitoring and physical security.

Air New Zealand worked with international datacentre design specialists AECOM to analyse and advise on the Tier 3 data centre designs of the shortlisted providers.
