Nokia has had a busy year and a few eyebrows were raised in the market, when the mobile phone giant announced its entrance into the computing space with its Booklet 3G mini laptop.
It also opened the Ovi Store to compete with Apple’s iPhone App Store and Research In Motion’s App World, which offers applications for the BlackBerry.
Microsoft and Nokia announced early this year that they are working together to put a version of Microsoft’s Office tools on Nokia handsets. Industry experts say this alliance gives Microsoft leverage against Google and others
that are attacking its Office business with free or low-priced, web-based productivity applications.
In July, Nokia reported second-quarter sales that were 25 percent lower than a year earlier, and net income was down 66 percent. While it predicts sales will stop sliding in the third quarter, the company expects to see no
increase in its market share this year.
