Infosys began 2009 with a new chief executive for Australia and New Zealand, enjoyed a 22.3 per cent growth in locally generated revenue and launched a consulting practice. It was a big year for the IT outsourcing provider.

ANZ CEO Jackie Korhonen says clients see value in partnering with them on major projects where they do not want to increase internal staff numbers.

Infosys, she says, offers access to skills, best of breed processes and technology industry expertise to complement local skills. Over the next 12 months, expect Infosys to pursue further contracts with clients in industries such as banking and telecommunications. This is particularly so in Australia, where the banks are undergoing major IT upgrades. The company will also focus on integrated IT/business process outsourcing services like its Procedure-to-Pay and HR Services platforms.

Infosys has strengthened its presence in New Zealand, with the recent opening of its first permanent office in Wellington. Korhonen says the plan is to have up to 100 local staff by the yearend. Rachael Bolton and Divina Paredes
