It has been a tough year for Hewlett-Packard, with the PC manufacturer slashing 31,000 jobs globally in the nine months to May 2009 following its acquisition of Electronic Data Systems (EDS). EDS has been integrated as HP
Enterprise Services as the company focuses on the growing role of enterprise technology services into its portfolio.

HP’s converged infrastructure solution includes virtualised servers, storage, networks and power and cooling. These components will be wrapped by end-to-end management software which HP says will allow organisations to rapidly scale up or down depending on their changing needs, reports Channelworld.

The company has been making friends this year, setting up a US$180 million four-year strategic alliance with Microsoft and a 10-year alliance with French-based Alcatel-Lucent. Meanwhile, HP and other PC manufacturers will be banking on the success of Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system to help in the recovery of the PC market into 2010. Rachael Bolton
