Optimation has reason to be optimistic about growth for the coming year, following significant project wins over the past 12 months. These include work with the Department of Corrections on its Integrated Offender Management System, and development of a medical practitioner registration and self-service system — called MedSys — for the Medical Council of New Zealand.
“We have also carried on doing a lot of work with Vodafone New Zealand and Air New Zealand. We work within Air New Zealand’s ISIS Group, which is responsible for online initiatives like Grab-a-Seat and How Far Can You Go,” says Neil Butler, founder and major shareholder. (Butler was replaced as CEO by Rhoda Holmes, but he remains as a director.)
Optimation is also developing a multi-agency collaboration tool for the Ministry of Economic Development, with an eye to avoiding multiple captures of the same business and economic information by different Government agencies.
Butler says growth areas include application development and software services — the company is presently growing at between 15 and 20 per cent per annum. “We are really focusing on the enterprise and mid-tier of the New Zealand market; there are very few strong local IT service businesses with a comparable scale and track record to meet the needs of those types of customers. We invest in our people, our processes and our intellectual property and we can engage in a very agile fashion. We develop business applications that are secure, robust and scalable. What differentiates us is we have a strong, independent security practice.”
