With one in every three computers housing an Asus motherboard, it’s no surprise that the company has the biggest share of the global market.

With one in every three computers housing an Asus motherboard, it’s no surprise that the company has the biggest share of the global market.

However, Asus has had a considerable impact on the consumer space as a pioneer of low-cost netbooks. Though battling with reduced demand due to the economic downturn, the company is releasing new products in an effort to grow into a global consumer gadget maker.

In addition to creating a new line of consumer products like TVs, VoIP phones, e-readers and video-streaming gadgets, the company is squarely set on becoming the third-largest notebook manufacturer in the world by 2012.

Asus also unveiled an all-in-one touch panel PC in November 2008, equipped with a 15.6-inch touch-panel widescreen that marks a significant departure from the traditional desktop computer market.

The company has partnered with GPS firm Garmin to develop a handset that
combines smartphone and GPS technology.
