Sun Microsystems on Tuesday reported a profit of US$795 (AU$1,094) million or US$0.24 (AU$0.33) per share in the fourth quarter, compared with a loss of US$1.039 (AU$1.429) billion or US$0.32 (AU$0.44) per share in the same quarter of last year.
Total revenue for the quarter, which ended June 30, was US$3.11 (AU$4.28) billion, up 4.3 percent from the year-earlier quarter, Sun said in a statement.
The company's results include US$1.6 (AU$2.2) billion of other income, and US$350 (AU$481) million in deferred other income related to Sun's settlement with Microsoft earlier this year, the company said. Sun is waiting for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to confirm its accounting for that settlement. Until then, the financial results reported Tuesday are preliminary figures, the company said.
