Bank of New Zealand has appointed a new ICT chief - Aaron Toatelegese, with the title of head of enterprise technology. Toatelegese rose the ranks to take the top ICT role, having been with the bank for 18 years.

Prior to his appointment, Toatelegese was with services management. He reports to Shelley Ruha, director of enterprise services.

The Wellington-based Toatelegese has been acting in this role since March, when chief technology officer Roy Goldsmith left after two years on the job.

He will lead one of the largest ICT teams in the country, tasked with managing over 9000 screens.

His appointment comes at a critical period for BNZ. The bank is embarking on a major transformation of its core banking system, as well as enhancing its current systems and processes, as reported Goldsmith, in an interview with CIO last year.
