Restructuring at AgResearch has seen former PGG Wrightson Head of IT Nic Mair move into the role of IT manager for AgResearch, replacing former CIO Dr Phillip Lindsay. Mair’s role reports to the shared services director.
ICT budgets for the scientific research agency remain relatively unchanged, “with IT continuing the focus on supporting research activities and business efficiency”, says Mair.
The information services team, under Mair’s leadership, is currently reviewing IT applications, infrastructure, disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities to ensure delivery of science outcomes for the organisation.
The above reviews, and ensuring continued strong business engagement, are together about ensuring that IT delivers an efficient and effective IT support. AgResearch is also further exploring where recent All of Government and CRI specific (for example NeSi and NZGL) initiatives can be leveraged to reduce cost and complexity and/or enhance operational effectiveness or reduce risk.
“With our Windows 7 rollout just about to hit the business, 2012 will continue to see us look to introduce we technologies (SQL 2012, Windows Server 8 R2, SCCM 2012) so that we to ensure the business gets the maximum value from these new technologies. Similar investigations are underway within our LAN/WAN space as we continue to explore the need to move and process massive amount of data,” says Mair.
