Website: www.tvnz.co.nzTVNZ, New Zealand’s largest free-to-air broadcaster and the nation’s public service broadcaster, has plans to leverage significant technology over the course of 2012. It is likely that cloud computing will retain its focus from last year, though plans to leverage business continuity/disaster recovery, business intelligence, CRM and unified communications, all new areas of focus in 2012, will be under review. Wireless and virtualisation projects were completed successfully in 2011. The economy had mended enough that ICT budgets and projects are on the increase, by as much as 5 percent. ICT staff numbers may rise by at least as much over the course of the year. TVNZ is known for its online and social media activity. When it launched a new youth TV channel a year ago,
it developed a promotional Facebook application that was so successful it is now used by Facebook as a case study. The channel, called U, benefited from innovative use of a Facebook application (app) and the strong results from a coinciding Facebook advertising campaign. U’s Facebook app was developed to deliver New Zealand’s first “social television” experience, where social networking and broadcast television would collide. In terms of dedicated budget or complexity, the most important projects requiring IT resource in 2012 will be a rollout of Windows 7 and a replacement of Vault.
