Website: www.progressive.co.nzProgressive Enterprises, a subsidiary of the publicly-listed Australian company Woolworths, owns and operates 160 Countdown supermarkets in New Zealand. Progressive is also the franchise co-ordinator for the Fresh Choice and SuperValue banner groups, with wholesaling for these operations conducted through The Supply Chain. The company has been active in the online retail space across ANZ and just released a free shopping app for the Countdown supermarkets for iPhone and Android smartphones. The app combines a digital shopping list with barcode scanning capability and an online shopping function. For several years, the organisation has worked to enhance the integration of its core IT systems with those of its trade partners through electronic data interchange (EDI), as e-business continues to be a key area of ICT focus for Progressive Enterprises and Woolworths. As part of this objective, it has deployed webforms, a web-based e-business portal. In a bid to speed up trade partner uptake of these electronic trading options in New Zealand, Woolworths engaged The ECN Group (ECN) to undertake a 13-week education project that involved liaising with 943 Progressive Enterprises trade partners, to educate, encourage and assist as many of them as possible to make an early transition to webforms or EDI. Further insights gained by ECN into the e-business capabilities and preferences of the Woolworths’ trade partner base, during the course of the project, will enable Woolworths and Progressive to enable most efficiently and effectively those yet to make an e-business transition.
