Website: www.nzpost.co.nzFollowing a significant reorganisation and merger across parts of the business in 2011, this year provides NZ Post with a number of positive challenges to reposition the IT function and help take the group forward on a new vision. The business model is in the process of being redesigned, and technology is identified as a key player in that process.
“Major business projects, such as the transformation of our retail network and digital identity are aimed at providing significant shifts in our capability and the information technology groups are set to assist in these projects,” explains Miles Fordyce, group technology manager. “We need IT to help transform the business and assist in the development of new business models. It is essential to business strategy.” Fordyce joined NZ Post in late October 2011 in a role created as part of a re-alignment of IT, after leaving his role as director of IT strategy for the University of Auckland. Significant ICT projects for NZ Post this year will include upgrades and consolidation of financial management systems, datacentre migration, including re-platforming a number of key systems, retail transformation, digital identity, renewal of the technology strategy and architecture, and an enterprise system review. “Operational effectiveness and efficiency, combined with the drive towards a digital enterprise, will create a significant programme of work over the next 12-24 months, as we look to assist in repositioning the technology capabilities of the group,” says Fordyce.
