Silver Fern Farms represents more than 16,000 sheep, cattle and deer farmers throughout New Zealand. The cooperative is a heavy user of Microsoft technologies with its core ERP platform being made up of Dynamics Nav, SharePoint 2010 and CRM 2011.
Last year saw a continued focus on improving and modernising its infrastructure including the rollout of Windows 7 to all corporate sites, upgrading Citrix, virtualisation of its database servers, the migration of its backup platform to CommVault for improved backup and recovery, and the implementation of BizTalk 2010 for third party integration support.
This year will see a major focus and investment on the quality and timeliness of the group’s livestock procurement information, including a mobility solution for its field representatives. Also high on the agenda is the data enrichment of its CRM system, particularly of supplier information leading to a better all-round understanding of supplier needs, as well as business process mapping of key business processes to support improved decision making and execution.
Silver Fern Farms will also be working closely with FarmIQ, which has been established to create something that doesn’t currently exist — a demand-driven integrated value chain for New Zealand red meat sector, says CIO Nigel Rickerby.
