Fisher & Paykel Appliances, New Zealand’s well-known designer and manufacturer of household appliances, has manufacturing and distribution sites located in New Zealand, Italy, Thailand, USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Ireland, Singapore and Australia.
Fisher & Paykel is first and foremost a products company, committed to technology, design, user friendliness and environmental awareness. “IT is here to support those business objectives. We are not an IT organisation,” says Andrew Cooke, vice-president — information technology and supply chain.
Last year, F&P completed an upgrade to the latest version of its ERP system, Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Currently, the IS team is extending the capability of an eCommerce plug-in. “We are in a position where we can leverage our ERP system to expand our B2B and B2C offerings,” Cooke explains.
Server virtualisation continues to be an area of IT focus for the organisation, as it continues to “scale out and up”. All work is done in-house. Investments in virtualisation have so far “greatly improved our disaster recovery position”, says Cooke. Additionally, they have significantly reduced the cost and time to implement any new applications and upgrades as well as standing up test environments when required.
ICT will continue to play a quiet background and supporting role for the multi-award winning company, which was again named New Zealand’s most trusted whiteware brand in 2011, for the 11th year in a row.
