Canterbury District Health Board ICT budgets and staff numbers remained unaffected by the economy in early 2011, though projects were expected to increase by up to 5 percent.
Pre-earthquake, investment was planned for several key areas of technology, including FMIS, mobility, wireless, VoIP and virtualisation. Unified Communications functionality continues to be utilised and expanded in an effort to reduce travel costs across the DHB’s widespread physical locations. A business continuity/disaster recovery project initiated in 2010 was completed by the end of the year.
Following the Christchurch earthquake in 22 February, the DHB continues with its vision to promote, enhance and facilitate the health and well-being of the people of the Canterbury District, though key projects and initiatives may change drastically from what they were at the start of the year, as the region progresses through its recovery.
Canterbury DHB has embraced the use of social media to communicate and engage with the people it seeks to serve, as well as to keep communication open among staff. The DHB is active on Facebook, its page regularly updated with photos, links and information about the Health Board, the services available and its needs.
