Key IS projects this year: Not disclosed.

New Zealand’s largest private hospital network, Southern Cross Hospitals (SCH), extends across 13 hospitals nationwide. The national not-for-profit reinvests any financial surpluses into expanding and upgrading its medical facilities, services for patients and the development of its employees.

The hospital system uses Kronos for Healthcare to streamline its workforce management processes, to support the extensive and agile rostering capabilities required by staff. When the hospital group first moved from paper-based time sheets to the Kronos Workforce Central back in 2002, it allowed workforce trends to be analysed and fast, intelligent decision making to occur around rostering. Upgrades to workforce management capabilities, also with Kronos, have resulted today in a consistent, flexible, automated system. Kronos’s advanced rostering options provide greater visibility into, and control over, available resources for

the hospitals.

SCH creatively utilises technology to assist in the recruitment of overseas candidates. Since 2009, the group has used web-enabled TalkingCV to conduct video interviews.

The hospital organisation is owned by parent company Southern Cross Healthcare. SCH relies on Datacom to provide infrastructure support services via an outsourcing agreement.

Some of the key projects Datacom has assisted in since the outsource agreement began include a server virtualisation project, deployment of a VoIP across the business, and design and implementation of a new generation hospital specific IT digital network that allows Southern Cross Hospitals to offer surgeons the latest technology and operating environment within Southern Cross facilities.
