Key IS projects this year: Migration of existing business units into Citrix Environment.
Stella Travel Services (STS), part of the JetSet Travelworld company since a merger in September last year, operates several travel businesses — STS head office, Air Tickets, Talpacific, Go Holidays, World Aviation, Harvey World Travel, United Travel, APX and QBT.
NZ GM Information Technology Karen Murphy’s role has been covered by Systems Support Manager Brad Watson and Infrastructure Manager Chris Siebert, via a job share model, while she takes maternity leave. She plans to return at the end of May, this year.
STS utilises several bespoke, in-house IT solutions, for instance, its CRM, ERP and business intelligence software applications. Financial solutions are provided via Great Plains FMIS software, while SQL and Informix are used for databases and Net App storage solutions are in place.
The recovering economy has had no effect on ICT operational budgets or projects this year for Stella Travel, and investments are planned across multiple technology areas: ERP, unified communications, CRM, virtualisation, VoIP, knowledge management, disaster recovery, mobility, e-business and cloud computing/managed services. Cloud technology will be sustained as a strong area of investment for the company, as it continues to reap the benefits of a major centralisation and VMware virtualisation project in 2009 that included a move to hosted applications.
The most important project for the company in 2011, in terms of dedicated ICT budget and complexity, will be the migration of existing business units into a Citrix environment.
