Key IS projects this year: Consolidation (hardware and software); DR/BCP; exploring service delivery options, such as cloud-based services/offerings.
For PGG Wrightson’s head of IT, Nic Mair, a large focus for the ICT team involves assisting the business in “setting of project priorities and providing resources to support project outcomes, as well as providing quality technical solutions to business objectives and projects”.
Savings from reviews of ICT investments, and from reviewing services, have contributed to lower operational budget this year. However, information technology projects and staff numbers are expected to go up as business projects come on stream.
The company is a leading provider to the local agricultural sector. The organisation has more than 40,000 clients across New Zealand, Australia and South America, and its IS Services team supports 2100 staff around New Zealand from Dunedin, where the majority of the IT team reside. Onsite support is also provided to the Christchurch head office.
This year will see a focus on ensuring that the IT services meet business requirements, and that chosen ICT investments are in line with and support the business strategies. “We currently have a number of business and IT strategy documents being created that will be presented to the Board, which will drive the ICT activity for the remainder of the year,” Mair says.
