Key IS projects this year: Core platform refresh, data centre relocation, telecommunications renewal, enterprise transformation.
Paul Jepson joined Housing New Zealand Corporation (HNZC) in August 2010 as CIO, responsible for developing and delivering an Information Systems Strategic Plan aligned with the corporate vision to “help New Zealanders in their time of housing need”.
Jepson’s key priority and major focus is leading the technology transformation required at HNZC in support of the strategic plan. The transformation will involve new datacentres (migrating from historical legacy in-house data centres to a managed outsource with Unisys and implementing a two site active/passive professionally managed data centre model); replacement of legacy frame relay WAN to the Government syndicated one.govt WAN offering; and a physical infrastructure refresh (moving from a legacy of unsupported hardware and infrastructure software versions to new hardware and software with a view to moving most servers into virtualisation technologies).
In addition to the core infrastructure, a large scale programme is underway to deliver an Oracle Northgate ERP platform, which aims to replace circa 80 percent of the application landscape.
In order to sustain the new platforms, people and process change is required. To deliver this, a new Target Operating Model has been defined based on the following principles: “We will be an enabling partner to the corporation who is strategic and forward thinking; “We will be connected to our customers through greater awareness and better understanding; Our vendors, suppliers and internal partners will be a seamless extension to our operation;” and we will collaborate with our partners to define, deliver and support solutions that enable the corporation goals.”
