Key IS projects this year: Website redevelopment, final phase of wireless upgrade, WAN upgrade

Saint Kentigern Trust Board now has governance of four schools in Auckland, with the recent addition of a preschool to the Saint Kentigern School for Girls — Corran campus in Remuera. Saint Kentigern School for Boys is also based in Remuera, while Saint Kentigern College is located on a 40-hectare property

in Pakuranga.

“ICT is used to support and enhance teaching and learning, administration and communication,” says Walter Chieng, director of ICT.

Though the investment in ICT is not expected to grow this year, project activities will continue to advance the organisation in its operation and in the classroom. Development will continue in wireless technology, with the final phase of a major upgrade at the College scheduled for completion at beginning of 2011. Saint Kentigern College was the first fully wireless campus in New Zealand in 2001. Today students and staff at all three campuses have wireless access.

Other key projects for 2011 include a major redevelopment of the Saint Kentigern schools presence on the internet. A new Vector fibre network will also be implemented across the organisation to share and manage services across all three campuses. Included in this project is the schools connection into EduNet. A new data centre is also planned for beginning of 2012 to service to the ever growing demand for ICT services right across the spectrum.

Saint Kentigern continues to work very closely with its partners to deliver a range of benefits to its customers. Included here is the upgrade to its fleet of Ricoh Multi-Functional Devices and printers. Over the last couple of years students at Saint Kentigern have also been equipped with latest Toshiba ultra-portable laptops.
