Red Hat is focusing on delivering cloud solutions to enterprise customers — in both the private and public sectors. The company says that its Cloud Foundations leverages off the operating environment in Red Hat Enterprise Linux, builds on its JBoss open middleware and drives efficiency through Red Hat enterprise virtualisation. The cloud system is based on vendor-neutral application programming interfaces. It offers portability and choice so that customers can avoid being locked into a single provider, Red Hat says. IDC research says that 80 percent of enterprises cite the lack of interoperability standards as a challenge in using cloud computing services. So, Red Hat is on the right track with Cloud Foundations, because its interoperable, portable features mean customers can avoid being locked in. Ulrika Hedquist
