The coming 12 months will be focused heavily on expansion for fibre optic network owner and operator FX Networks. The company intends to increase revenue this year some 60 to 70 percent, with a target set at NZ$40 million.
“We’re bidding for the Rural Broadband Initiative,” says CFO Derek Locke. “And we will continue to construct and keep building our network. If we win the RBI, either partly or wholly, it will mean huge changes and significant growth.”
The internet services company has more than 3000 kilometres of fibre optic cable in the ground – either owned by or accessible to FX Networks – and achieved full connectivity from Dunedin to Auckland in October this year.
In September, FX Networks was named the TUANZ Next Generation Fibre-Optic Network Award winner in 2010, for making “the most significant contribution to moving New Zealand towards next generation fibre-based telecommunications”.
In response to the award, managing director Murray Jurgeleit said, “There are other networks in New Zealand, but they were mostly designed and built last century. What worked yesterday is probably not good enough to get you to where you need to be tomorrow.”
