Cisco Systems posted gains in both profit and revenue for its fiscal first quarter that ended October 30, despite what it called “a challenging economic environment”.
Chairman and CEO John Chambers says Cisco had run into some surprises in the quarter, including how fast government purchases fell off, but expressed confidence in the company’s overall progress.
“This is minor bumps in terms of the direction where we are going to head as a company.”
He says the company is confident in its strategy and will continue to move into areas “where the network is becoming the platform, and where our customers want us to invest and innovate”.
