The past 12 months have seen a series of major launches from Microsoft, including Windows 7, Office 2010 and Microsoft Online Services (BPOS). The heavily publicised introduction of the company’s Windows 7 operating system has proven successful so far for the software giant, with upwards of 175 million licences.
Microsoft has high hopes that the mobile version of the operating system, Windows Phone 7, will help the company arrest the slide in market share it has experienced in recent times.
Another recent release is Lync — the next version of what used to be called Office Communications Server 2007, the unified communications and collaboration software that is tied in closely with Office, SharePoint and Exchange.
