Mackenzie believes that some customers may be better served by wireless connections as an interim solution to fibre-to-the-door.

In the recently ended financial year (closed 30 June), revenue for Vector increased by 1.1 percent, with underlying net profit up 4.3 percent. Group CEO Simon Mackenzie told media that he considered the result “positive”, and says it is commited to the government’s ultra-fast broadband rollout. Vector continues to be an active member of the New Zealand Regional Fibre Group (NZRFG).

Mackenzie believes that some customers may be better served by wireless connections as an interim solution to fibre-to-the-door.

He released a statement through the NZRFG in August, saying Vector was ready to begin building the government’s fibre network immediately. “We have supported the Rural Broadband Initiative from day one and believe it is an important extension to the government’s Ultra-Fast Broadband Initiative, which concentrates on urban areas,” he said. “We have worked closely with the government throughout this process because we want to deliver the most compelling, nationally-coordinated solution for New Zealand.”
