The Department of Corrections has signed a five year IT and telecommunications outsourcing agreement with Gen-i and appointed a consortium, led by Optimation, for application development, maintenance and support services. The other members of the OHR consortium are Wellington-based IT specialists Resultex Group and Optimation’s global partner HCL.
The Gen-i deal will support over 200 Corrections sites across New Zealand.
OHR will be looking after the Oracle-based data warehouse and SAP environment.
Corrections has moved to outsourcing as it plans to take advantage of technologies such as cloud computing, video conferencing and real-time monitoring. In the future Corrections wants to implement Gen-i’s ReadyCloud infrastructure-as-a-service offering.
The Department, which was ranked at 16 in this year's MIS100 of leading local ICT using organisations, enforces the sentences and orders of the criminal courts and parole board.
Corrections CIO Jon Cumming says it is undertaking a major programme of business transformation that needs to be supported by an adaptable, low-risk IT environment.
It has worked with all three members of the OHR consortium on previous projects, including redevelopment and enhancement of the core Integrated Offender Management System (IOMS) and a major SAP upgrade.
