IT Solutions is recognised throughout Statistics NZ as an integral business group, providing effective services through strong partner relationships and a track record of delivery. The IT Solutions teams are engaged with the business of Statistics NZ, and focus on value for money through the combination of the skills of staff and the use of standardised processes and platforms wherever possible.

The organisation’s IT Strategy 2009 to 2012 specifies that innovative thinking, strategic alliances and research and development will provide assurance that technology will remain relevant and responsive to the future initiatives, enabling Statistics NZ to turn data into relevant knowledge efficiently. These areas of focus will help lead to a sustainable and robust IT infrastructure, with standardised platforms based on the generic business process model and aligned with statistical architecture.

Several key business projects and programmes taking place over the 2010 year will include large IT components. These are the Census 2011, the Programme of Social Statistics, a project to standardise the data dissemination management and a project to transform delivery of economic statistics. Lastly, there is an ongoing IT investment programme containing infrastructure and capacity management, legacy mitigation, software upgrades, organisational and IT process improvements, and enabling initiatives.
