As a result of technology director Ken Tunnicliffe’s move to Turkey, Sandra Pickering has taken over as CTO for Vodafone New Zealand.
Following multiple outages on the beleaguered 3G Telecom XT mobile network, organisations such as the Hutt Valley DHB have suggested moving to Telecom’s competitors in an effort to receive more reliable service. A Vodafone spokesperson was quoted by TopNews as saying, “The company could not provide figures of how many new customers it had gained since the XT failures on February 17 and 22. It’s been phenomenal though. We’ve had to fly extra salespeople in, to the South Island in particular.”
Vodafone experienced its own network outage in March when a planned network upgrade to cabling between Taupiri and Horotiu affected 16 sites across the Bay of Plenty.
In November last year Downer EDI (recently rebranded as Downer NZ), expanded its maintenance contract for Vodafone mobile network, as reported by Computerworld. The re-signed contract “greatly expands its [Downer’s] role and activities”, said Paul Brislen, head of corporate communications for Vodafone.
The new three-year contract, which covers maintenance work and break-fix services, comes with a two-year right of renewal. Vodafone also signed an agreement with Downer to have 4000 GPS modules implemented across its transport and construction plant fleet, according to the same Computerworld report.
