Microsoft partners shoot for global success

29 NZ entries submitted for international awards.

Microsoft’s efforts to encourage local entries in its global partner awards have paid dividends, with 29 entries, an increase of 22 over last year. As reported by Reseller News last month, the vendor more closely aligned entry dates to promote partner entry in both the local and global awards.

At an Auckland function today celebrating last year’s local winners, partner director Brent Colbert told attendees the entire New Zealand leadership team would make the trip to the global conference, set for Washington, US in July. He added key announcements would be made at the conference.

Microsoft has made changes to some local awards this year, with the addition of Partner’s Choice CIO of the Year, Business Impact Solution of the Year and MSN New Zealand Advertising Partner of the Year. The partner of the winning CIO will likely present them with the award, Colbert says. 20 awards will be given this year in four areas: Solutions, Individual, Partnering and Supreme, with judging to take place in June. Microsoft will present three Supreme awards – one of which is the Platform Value award, part of a bid to encourage partners to sell platforms rather than one-off product sales. The Business Impact Solution is another, as well as one for an independent software vendor. Rather than offer the Solutions Star and Licensing Star awards as it did last year, it will recognise a Solution Architect of the Year. The awards event will be held at Auckland’s Langham Hotel in August.
