After spurning a takeover bid from Microsoft, Yahoo!’s board was shaken and reshuffled. Jerry Yang, founder and “Chief Yahoo”, stepped down from his CEO position, giving way to Bartz early this year. The hostile Microsoft takeover fizzled and in its place a 10-year agreement with the software giant was signed, wherein Microsoft powers Yahoo! while Yahoo! becomes the exclusive worldwide sales force for both companies.
When the dust cleared, Bartz established a clear vision for the company: to be the centre of people’s lives online. To this end, Yahoo! introduced a significant modification to its home page. With the change, Yahoo! now lets users reconfigure their own home page and add apps or any site on the web, as well as access them from their computer or mobile devices. As people increasingly interact on the internet, this level of personalisation allows users to get more done and faster.
Yahoo! also introduced new products to allow marketers to reach a target audience when advertising. Gene Orejana
