Smartpath is a private company that began in 2001 as an asset auditing firm, but discovered a gap in the market for software to record, support and manage this kind of data.
A year or so after its launch, the company released the first version of its flagship platform Loc8, which has now passed through a dozen or so incarnations. Over the past 12 months, Smartpath has continued its expansion in the domestic Australian market, with several major sales and related contracts. Among the big wins this year was Rio Tinto in Western Australia — managing the Pilbara rail lines — and a sale to William Inglis and Son in Victoria.
Smartpath was also recruited by UXC subsidiary Morgan FM to provide comprehensive management services for its entire workforce deployment and management systems.
Smartpath plans to use the next 12 months to consolidate and expand its domestic penetration, and will look at what it considers key markets for global expansion as well — namely Britain and the US. Rachael Bolton
