Qantas deal sparks new Fujitsu service centre

More than 45 jobs created in Auckland and further growth planned.

Prime Minister John Key opened Fujitsu's new service centre in Auckland today. The centre will help provide IT services to Qantas staff globally and is also set to be used by new and existing customers. The establishment of the centre resulted from Fujitsu’s recent deal to provide cross-functional services, desktop, file and print, messaging and storage services for more than 20,000 desktops and 280 servers for the airline's staff around the world. The centre will provide part of these services to Qantas.

More than 45 new jobs have been created at the centre, with further growth planned as Fujitsu extends its services to both new and existing customers.

New Zealand managing director Stuart Stitt says he is excited the company is expanding its Auckland operation. “This service centre is a highly valuable asset to our organisation and we are pleased to be able to expand our resources in this area to meet the growing demand for new business.”

Fujitsu has also created 10 new jobs in its Wellington service centre to provide technical support to nearly 2,500 employees at BOC Gases. A managed services customer since 2002, the BOC service desk relocated from Sydney, its previous base, to Wellington and became fully operational in October.
