The aim is to explore ways in which companies have addressed the concept of sustainability and built it into their business models, practices and processes, and to understand how they have negotiated difficult challenges. The series will emphasise the importance of strategic sustainability in planning for a long-term future.
The Sustainable 60 Series involves a call for entries (open until 21 September 2009), an awards cocktail function, an editorial supplement in the Independent newspaper and Unlimited magazine, and seminars/workshops in 2010.
It’s not just about talking green. The series will share and reward excellence and best sustainable business practice in the following categories:
• Strategy and governance – value drivers for innovative leadership
• Workplace – from ethics to ongoing learning
• Marketplace – the value chain interface
• Environment – from resource use to closed loop systems
• Community – confirming the licence to operate
• Overall exemplar – small, medium, large companies
On the night of the awards, there will be a winner per category. Those companies submitting entries for all five categories will be put forward to the overall exemplar category, in which three awards will be given, depending on company size;
• Small (0-20 employees)
• Medium (20-100 employees)
• Large (100+ employees)
An overall winner of the Sustainable 60 series will then be chosen from the winners of these three exemplar awards.
The Sustainable 60 is proudly sponsored by Andrew.Stewart, Massey University, Maven International and Ricoh New Zealand.
