PGG Wrightson has four operating groups: Customer Services, Seed and Grain, Financial Services and South America.

In 2008, priority ICT projects for PGG Wrightson were server virtualisation, systems management and user provisioning, along with disaster recovery and business continuity. In 2009, CIO Bruce Tinsley says the IT team is furthering business process optimisation, while also seeking to reduce the cost of IT support through efficiencies.

Towards this, PGG Wrightson is continuing with the development and implementation of its ERP system, a major business and IT project initiated last year. PGG Wrightson has implemented Oracle’s JD Edwards ERP platform to consolidate its multiple legacy financial systems, as well as provide a single platform to support the company’s future growth. The next stage of implementation will focus on optimising inventory and supply chain management.

Ongoing CRM and BI system improvements are also a priority, as it continues to focus on delivering greater value for customers.

PGG Wrightson is continuing work on its e-commerce site, AgOnline. This is an online livestock auction site, which currently allows trading of dairy stock. Work is underway to introduce beef, sheep, deer and other categories of commercial livestock. The site will be further expanded to become an e-commerce platform for the rural sector catering for farmers, growers and others in the rural sector.

PGG Wrightson uses a Telecom OneOffice solution and primarily runs a thin client Citrix operating system environment on HP Blade servers. The organisation continues to in-source ICT operations and functions, employing staff in-house to manage functions across the company. The outsourcing of desktop provisioning, maintenance and support to Axon is an exception.
