Key IS projects this year: Cisco wireless management system and 802.11n, fibre network upgrade.

ICT systems running 24x7 facilitate effective communication and support student learning in a digital age for Saint Kentigern schools. Independent education is available on three campuses; Saint Kentigern College, Saint Kentigern School, Saint Kentigern at Corran. Director of ICT Walter Chieng says ICT investment in 2009 includes a wireless infrastructure upgrade to support the college’s user base, and rollout of laptops to new and current users. It is also undergoing a fibre network upgrade.

In 2009, Saint Kentigern School is celebrating its 50th Jubilee with a new sports centre. It is equipped with all the necessary ICT technologies to service the facility. Wireless, mobile security and core infrastructure is achieved with a range of technologies from Cisco Systems. The integration of Sharepoint is used to facilitate collaboration, provide content management and enhance business processes.

Websense software is used to safeguard core network systems and the users from ongoing threats due to the evolving security landscape. The college also offers an online reporting and parent interview booking service, extending the Saint Kentigern web services platform. A VoIP system based on Cisco Call Manager software is deployed across the college and school campuses.

Chieng says the security technologies the college uses allow it to extend a safety net beyond school boundaries. Every staff and student has their own school email account protected by the MXtreme gateway.

Key outsource partners are Service Plus, which looks after laptop maintenance; and Fujitsu and Computing Directions Australia, which develop software applications for the school. Edtech and Toshiba are key partners in supply and rollout of laptops computers to its students.
