Key IS projects this year: Development of a new small game; gaming systems enhancements; various infrastructure upgrades.

The goal of NZ Lotteries is to connect with more New Zealanders and encourage them to enjoy playing its games more frequently by offering compelling communications, delivering engaging offers and introducing new games. It also relies heavily on delivering a good customer experience at its retail and an online distribution channel.

Richard Tims, chief technology officer, says several new projects require significant support and input from the IT team. These include improving processes and tools that support the provision of IT services, enhancing project management skills throughout the business, driving improvements in service reliability, customer experience and efficiency, as well as supporting new game development.

In the past 12 months NZ Lotteries has continued investing in its business continuity and disaster recovery systems and put significant effort into the launch of its Interactive channel. In 2009, focus areas include an ERP and business intelligence system improvements, investment in customer management policies, processes and technologies; and workforce mobilisation and consideration of mobile platform opportunities.

In terms of budget, NZ Lotteries will invest in technologies to enhance the sales channel, while also embarking on systems maintenance and a desktop upgrade. Other plans are to use business intelligence tools to improve insights into customer buying behaviour. With more than 10 million transactions per month passing through the NZ Lotteries gaming network, greater knowledge around those transactions will lead to smarter business decisions. A formal knowledge management project is underway and will encompass business intelligence and document management processes, as well as changes to business culture.
