Like all Councils in the Auckland Region, the move to a new Auckland ‘super city’ is understandably top of mind for North Shore City Council, says Tony Rogers, general manager Customer and Information Services.

In the Royal Commission report into Auckland governance, Rogers notes that one of the first important tasks facing the Auckland City Establishment Board is preparing an ‘Interim e-government and Information and Communications Technology Strategy’.

Rogers says for North Shore this has meant investments in projects in the ICT area in the coming months will be carefully reviewed, to ensure the benefits will continue in the “super city”.

“Many projects will be deferred until the Establishment Board issues directions.

Projects in progress and due for completion in the next few months will continue, as will projects that enhance current e-services. The Royal Commission report places considerable emphasis on service delivery using channels such as the internet and North Shore will continue deploying services in this channel. Examples are property files online and electronic building consents,” says Rogers.

Current projects nearing completion include a complete web refresh, finalising deployment of mobile solutions for field staff, implementing a knowledge base for use by the call centre and the public, as well as a significant upgrade to the council’s GIS (Geographic Information) on the web.

North Shore City Council has outsourced all ICT functions with the exception of support for financial systems, HR payroll and operation of the council’s call centre.
