Orcon@work and home broadband customers can make their data allowances go further, with the telecommunications company offering free data downloads from a range of popular local websites. The deal means customers can access zero-rated data from seven websites and the company’s email servers. It plans to grow the list of sites in the future.
Chief executive Scott Bartlett says the company recognises there is an opportunity to promote the consumption of local content.
“This is great value add for broadband users and something that really sets us apart. Streaming and downloading can rapidly chew through gigabytes of data – and this is a great advance for those who know that they can get the best of the New Zealand web delivered over their broadband connection.”
Current sites in the deal include TVNZ, George FM, the Orcon mail servers and Orcon’s company website.
Bartlett says Orcon broadband customers currently on its range of business and consumer plans get the benefits automatically. However, customers who are on non-current or legacy plans won’t get the unmetered access.
