In a statement from IRD, the commissioner of Inland Revenue, Robert Russell, is quoted as saying Occleshaw brings "a wealth of experience" to the position.
Occleshaw became CIO at MSD in 2004. Before that he was head of IT at ANZ Bank.
He has been leading a major replatforming project at the ministry, aiming to shift its aging benefits and welfare systems, SWIFFT and Trace, to a Java platform. MSD also embarked on a systems integration, including that of Child, Youth and Family and a strong IT program delivery capability.
Occleshaw was named CIO of the Year in the 2008 Computerworld Excellence Awards.
