HOUSE OF TRAVEL is an online travel agent fully integrated and

supported with a chain of 90 ‘bricks and mortar’ outlets throughout

New Zealand.

Key business objectives include constantly streamlining costs to

ensure House of Travel is able to continue to compete effectively in

today’s travel environment.

One of the most significant challenges is that customers can now

bypass traditional travel agency services to access global travel

suppliers directly online.

David Veronese, general manager IT operations, says balancing the

maintenance of legacy systems over the development of new solutions

is a particular challenge for the ICT team.

CRM business strategies and tools are critical as the business intelligence

gleaned from these tools can be leveraged to create tailored

travel packages with a difference. Examples include packages

targeted to meet specific hobbies and interests such as fitness, history

or attending live shows.

Customers also interact with House of Travel directly online and

Veronese says the business is dealing with exponential growth in

online travel sales. However, the online travel market is a low margin,

high volume market and susceptible to changes.

Faster delivery of travel information to travel retailers is a priority.

This has come about as customers expect instant confirmation of

accommodation and transport availability.

It is a light outsourcer with only PC maintenance outsourced to

Datacom. The company has a good relationship with telecommunications

supplier Telecom New Zealand, says Veronese.
