Key IS projects this year: Varied including new data centre facilities

and new payroll systems and extension of wireless, mobile and VoIP

infrastructure.

THE PAST YEAR has seen Datacom expand to more than 2800

staff across New Zealand, Australia and Asia. The Deloitte 100 ranks

Datacom in the top two companies in ICT by revenue, profi t and

staff numbers.

Commensurate with its position as a significant supplier of IT

services to the public and private sector, Datacom understandably

ensures its own ICT systems and solutions are representative of what

it can offer customers.

The New Zealand arm of Datacom has projects running to establish

new data centres in Auckland and Wellington. The new facilities, which

are purpose-built, standalone structures, will each have capacity for

more than 500 racks — both caged and non-caged.

The Auckland project is the most advanced, with the facility set to

open in the first quarter of 2009. A start will be made on the Wellington

centre, drawing on the experiences of the Auckland project, before the

end of the year. The data centre initiative is another piece in the overall

capability development programme to cement Datacom as a credible,

independent provider and integrator in the deregulating telecommunications

market. Streamlining business continuity and disaster recovery

systems is an ongoing point of focus for Datacom.

Secure data centres running ITIL processes are located in Auckland,

Wellington, Sydney and Melbourne, with disaster recovery sites in

Auckland and Christchurch. Regular facilities include fi rewall security,

internal access, CA alarm/alerting, shared SAN storage and self-service

access to help desk, performance fi gures and control-centre statistics

and status. Datacom presently has a hybrid VoIP network covering

seven sites with expansion this year according to business demand.
